Synopsis/Plot:

In the fictional kingdom of Paurashpur, men hold absolute power, and women are mere pawns. They are treated as objects to fulfill men’s lustful desires. The society is deeply patriarchal, and women have no standing. They are bound by oppressive rules, including the “Sati” ritual after their husband’s demise and wearing a “Chastity Belt” with a lock on their private parts. Defying these rules leads to public execution.

King Bhadra Pratap Singh (played by Annu Kapoor) rules over Paurashpur. His first wife, Meeravati (Shilpa Shinde), ensures his carnal needs are met, providing him with young queens who mysteriously disappear from the palace. Boris (Milind Soman), a transgender character, challenges the King’s comfort and has a connection to the queens’ abductions. Amidst this turmoil, the show raises questions about gender equality in a society where hope seems distant.

Review:

“Paurashpur” attempts to draw attention to significant issues like patriarchy, gender politics, and power dynamics. However, it falls short due to weak execution. The series boasts impressive sets, costumes, and a strong background score, effectively capturing the 16th-century era. Milind Soman shines as Boris, but the overall pacing suffers due to abrupt episode endings.

Unfortunately, loose ends persist throughout the series. Viewers are left wondering why Boris is furious with the King and why Meeravati is the King’s favorite queen. Despite its potential, “Paurashpur” feels like a half-hearted commitment, failing to deliver on its promise as an erotic drama.
