The film begins with a captivating summary of the prehistory of the One Ring, a powerful artifact created by the Dark Lord Sauron. Long ago, twenty rings existed: three for elves, seven for dwarves, nine for men, and the One Ring made by Sauron himself. This malevolent ring contained all his evil and desire for dominion. An alliance of elves and humans resisted Sauron’s ring and fought against Mordor, Sauron’s realm. They emerged victorious, and the One Ring fell into the hands of Isildur, the son of the king of Gondor. However, instead of destroying it, Isildur kept the ring for himself.

Centuries later, the ring resurfaces when the creature Gollum discovers it and brings it to his cave. Eventually, it falls into the possession of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins. The film then transports us to the peaceful Shire, where Bilbo celebrates his 111th birthday. During the festivities, Bilbo puts on the ring, becoming invisible, and decides to leave the Shire.
