Synopsis/Plot:
In Legion, the Archangel Michael (played by Paul Bettany) falls to Earth in Los Angeles, cutting off his wings. He arrives at the Paradise Falls Diner, near the Mojave Desert, where a group of people—including Kyle, a single father; Bob, the diner owner; and Charlie, a pregnant waitress—take refuge. As the world faces an apocalypse, Michael reveals that God has lost faith in humanity and sent angels to destroy it. However, Charlie’s unborn baby is destined to be humanity’s savior, and Michael disobeys God’s order to protect it. The diner becomes the battleground as possessed humans attack, and Michael leads the fight to safeguard the infant.
Review:
Legion combines shoot-em-up horror with graphic novel aesthetics. While the film has interesting ideas and good action, it suffers from underdeveloped storytelling and unimaginative dialogue. Paul Bettany’s credible performance as the warrior archangel adds depth, but overall, it falls into the B-action category. Despite critical reception, it found box office success, earning over $67 million on a $26 million budget.
