Synopsis/Plot:
Maharaja, a simple barber living in Pallikaranai, Chennai, lost his wife in a tragic accident. His daughter, Jyothi, survived the incident thanks to a metal dustbin that shielded her. Maharaja and Jyothi affectionately anthropomorphize the dustbin, naming it “Lakshmi.” As Jyothi grows into a teenager, she leaves for a sports camp in Coimbatore with her sports teacher, Aasifa. Meanwhile, Maharaja reports a robbery to the police, claiming that Lakshmi has been stolen. The police initially dismiss the case, but Maharaja persists, leading to unexpected revelations.

Vijay Sethupathi delivers a stellar, brooding performance as Maharaja. The film starts simply but gains strength as the narrative unfolds. With smooth twists and engaging screenplay, it transcends its regular drama genre. If you appreciate action dramas with solid execution, “Maharaja” is worth watching.
