Synopsis/Plot:
In “The Marvels,” three powerful heroines—Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan—find themselves unexpectedly united in a cosmic adventure. Each character brings her unique abilities and perspective to the table. Carol, with her spiky coolness, Monica’s warmth and wisdom, and Kamala’s infectious teenage enthusiasm, form an unlikely trio.
The story kicks off when a wild-eyed, vengeful Kree villain named Dar-Benn (played by Zawe Ashton) seeks a powerful bangle—one that matches the one granting Kamala her abilities. The film delves into their interconnected pasts, weaving together their individual journeys while connecting back to other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) properties.
However, “The Marvels” struggles to find its rhythm. The script, penned by Nia DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, and Elissa Karasik, attempts to juggle multiple character arcs, MCU tie-ins, and forward-moving saga elements. Unfortunately, it never quite hits its stride. The film oscillates between characters explaining things to each other and dizzying action sequences, leaving emotional connections and stakes feeling forced and rushed.
