Vikram, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, merges the espionage-filled world of Kamal Haasan’s 1986 film Vikram with the action-packed universe of his own 2019 film Kaithi. While the film ambitiously expands its cinematic universe, it falls short of fully immersing the audience.

The story kicks off intriguingly with the murder of Karnan (Kamal Haasan), the father of a martyred cop. A group of masked men claims responsibility for these killings, declaring war against the system. Police chief Jose (Chemban Vinod Jose) assigns black ops officer Amar (Fahadh Faasil) to investigate. The prime suspect is Sandhanam (Vijay Sethupathi), a ruthless drug lord searching for a shipment of raw material that could elevate him to kingpin status.

Vikram excels in its first half, where Amar and his team unravel the mystery behind the murders. Kamal Haasan’s presence, both as the character and actor, resonates even in his limited screen time. The film pays homage to Kamal’s iconic roles from Nayakan to Anbe Sivam, adding minor thrills for fans.
